The Scientist/Academic

I am passionate about all marine science, but my particular interest lies in spatial ecology (why and when species occupy different parts of the marine environment, and their movements through the ocean) and spatial management measures for conservation. What really gets me excited is the concept of managing our interactions with mobile marine species/life stages through spatial conservation strategies, such as dynamic ocean management and marine protected area network design.

Relating to this overarching interest, I closely follow research community ecology, rewilding, biogeography, connectivity and networks, sustainable use and overexploitation, harvest selection, and human-wildlife conflict.   I also play close attention to the legislative and policy mechanisms for conservation and marine resource management such as IUU (illegal, unreported and unregulated) fishing, and PADDD (protected areas downgraded, downsized, or degazetted) events.
